How to Setup Kodi Remote Control on Your Phone — Step by Step

Tired of using a keyboard or basic remote to navigate Kodi? wako turns your phone into a powerful Kodi remote with full navigation, playback controls, and Trakt auto-sync. Here's how to set it up in under 5 minutes.

What you need

  • A device running Kodi (PC, Raspberry Pi, Android TV, Fire TV, etc.)
  • wako installed on your phone (iOS or Android)
  • Both devices connected to the same network

Step 1 — Configure Kodi for remote access

In Kodi, go to Settings > Services > Control. Enable these settings:

  • “Allow remote control via HTTP” → ON
  • “Port” → leave at 8080 (or set your preferred port)
  • “Username” and “Password” → set these (required for Kodi 19+)
  • “Allow remote control from applications on other systems” → ON

Step 2 — Add your Kodi host in wako

Open wako > Settings > Kodi > Configure Hosts > Add. wako will scan your network and automatically detect Kodi hosts. Tap on your Kodi device to connect.

If automatic detection doesn't work, tap “Skip” and enter the IP address and port manually. To find your Kodi IP address: in Kodi, go to Settings > System Information. The IP address is shown in the right panel.

Step 3 — Start using the remote

Once connected, you'll see a green “OK” status. Go back to wako's main screen — you can now browse content and send it to Kodi with one tap, or use the built-in remote control for full navigation.

Pro tips

  • Multiple Kodi setups? Add each one as a separate host. Switch between them from the Kodi settings screen.
  • Trakt scrobbling — Enable Trakt scrobble in wako to automatically mark content as watched when you play it on Kodi.
  • Troubleshooting — If wako can't find your Kodi, try accessing http://YOUR_IP:8080 from your phone's browser. If that doesn't work, it's a network or firewall issue.
